Canon Maxify MB2360 printer not working with USB connection on iMac with macOS Tahoe

I have shiny new computer that I cant print from - I mistakenly thought that the Canon Maxify MB2360 would work - but when I installed the drivers from Canon website it failed at the last step. - I have purchased a USB hub that does connect to iMac and the computer recognises the printer as well as the conventional USB memory stick. I have message from Canon to use AirPrint - but as yet cant figure it out. - Am thinking that I may need to buy a new printer, but I would prefer to have the connection by USB not Airprint.

A USB connection requires drivers to support it, and if the drivers from Canon cannot be installed or are incompatible with Tahoe, then you cannot connect it that way. If the printer supports AirPrint, no drivers are needed, so that would be the alternate solution you need to implement.

Edit: saw the original title, if you do not have Wi-Fi then perhaps you do need a new printer. Are you connecting via an ethernet cable? If you are using your phone as a personal hotspot, you should be able to connect the printer to that hotspot as well and AirPrint would work that way.

I have a very positive update on my problem printing from my new computer. Previously, I went to the download driver page on Canon and downloaded the latest driver for the printer and scanner that I have and when I tried to install them, the installation failed at the very last step.

I made a phone call to Canon support and while waiting to get set up, I turned the computer on and the printer made sure they were connected via USB and explained my problem to the canon support person. They directed me to add printer so I opened preferences and went to add a printer and the computer saw the printer it had a driver so I added the printer tested it and not only does the printer work but the scanner part of it also works, which is exactly what I was looking for so I’m 100% delighted while the Can

on lady was on the phone. I asked her was it possible for me to print from this printer using the iPad, so she then proceeded to guide me through to connecting the printer and the iPad through the iPhone as a network thing and that was a success as well. I asked the support lady how come the computer now recognizes the printer and believe she said the computer just needed to think about it so I can’t explain how this all came to pass. I can only say that it now works, which is exactly what I was hoping for and I’m really delighted.

If you do not have a network, almost any inexpensive (new or second-hand) Wi-Fi router could be used to test a small local network for printing purposes. This router does not necessarily have to be connected to the Internet (WAN). Of main interest here is the local (LAN or WLAN) side.

Apple's driverless AirPrint technology can be used with wireless (Wi-Fi) or wired (Ethernet) network connections. The Mac computer and the printer must be connected to the same network (subnet).

The Canon MAXIFY MB2360 appears to have both Wi-Fi and Ethernet, so an Ethernet cable to one of the LAN ports of the router should work, if you so wish.

There are no compatible USB drivers from Canon for that printer and you must use AirPrint.

To connect the Canon printer to your local Wi-Fi network.

Then connect to the printer using AirPrint.
