iPhone and iPad on iOS/iPadOS 26 both don't allow changing settings for wired accessories, how can I fix this?

I tried to change the settings for allowing/Ask when wired accessories are connected, but they are grayed out. It also says this setting is managed by your organization and cannot be changed. I have no MDM. I do have two configuration profiles used to set up my FastMail accounts. This seems to have happened only since I upgraded to iOS/iPadOS. I want to change settings from Always Allow to Always Ask, but am unable. Others seem to have this issue on Reddit. I need help!e

What you’re seeing is almost certainly being enforced by a configuration profile, even if you don’t have a full MDM enrolled. AFAIK, Apple treats any installed configuration profile—whether it came from a mail service, VPN provider, or corporate IT—as an “organization” when it comes to restrictions. In your case, the FastMail profiles are most likely carrying a payload that inadvertently locks down USB/wired accessory settings.

You can test this as follows:

  • On your device, go to SettingsGeneral VPN & Device Management.
  • If you see the FastMail profiles listed there, try temporarily removing them, rebooting, and then checking whether the Wired Accessories toggle becomes editable again.
  • If it does, you’ve found the culprit. After that, you can either
    • Live without the profile and manually configure your FastMail accounts in Mail Accounts, or
    • Contact FastMail support to see if they’re aware of this new restriction in iOS 26 profiles.
