Apple Watch not communicating verbally time/distance since iOS 26

Hello, every morning my dog and I run/walk almost 3 miles and I don’t take my iPhone with me to reduce weight/bulk. Prior to IOS 26, the watch would give me time/distance/splits verbally at certain intervals. Now it won’t do so any more and I don’t know if there’s a setting I haven’t found or what. I’ve search for an answer and cannot find one. I tried the workout buddy but found out I need the phone to use it. Is that feature now defunct or did I miss something? Thank you
