Apple has changed the layout for Urdu keyboard in latest Mac OS Tahoe update. It is very difficult to unlearn the old keyboard that has been (and is on other platforms) a standard Urdu Keyboard layout for years. How do I get the old keyboard back? Is there a way to work around the new layout?

no worries. Just download keyman for macos (check google). Download phonetic keyboard. It worked like charm. Perfectly working on MacOs Tahoe M1 Macbook Pro

Please tell us exactly how it is "not working properly", since it should be what you need.
To install it, you put the .bundle file in Home/Library/Keyboard Layouts, then logout/login, then go to system settings / keyboard / text input / edit / all input sources and use the plus button at the bottom to add it to your input source list. It may be in the "others" category.
To get to Home/Library, you hold down Option and do Finder > Go.
Please post the name and a screenshot of the new Urdu layout you are seeing.
In the past, Apple's Urdu layout was always a qwerty version, as show below. If you had something different, I think you must have downloaded it from the web someplace.
I just provided the feedback. I agree this should not have been done this like this. Anyways, the Sonoma layout you provided is not working properly. Is there a way to get the old layout?

It would be really helpful if you could post details of those issues here, including screenshots of them happening in TextEdit or Pages. Without such info it will be hard for Apple to fix anything.
PS If by chance the Urdu keyboard from Sonoma is what you need, you can get it here.

Thanks! It is still essentially qwerty, but a number of keys are different. Apple almost never changes layouts like that -- I wonder why they did it in this case.

Thankfully the correct phonetic positions have been restored. It will be such a convenience. However, signs/symbols (airaab) have not been restored to the original layout yet. I wish they also fix it.
With the latest update 26.2, it is now reverted back to correct Phonetic positions.
