NVMe External Disk Working with OS Sequoia But not with OS Tahoe

Hi, I have been using external NVMe disk since March 2025 with my Mac M1 1TB until recently couple of days ago I updated Mac OS to Tahoe from Sequoia 15.6. Now Mac OS Tahoe is disconnecting my NVMe automatically saying please eject the disc before disconnecting and suddenly after an hour it reconnects. Right now I have reinstall Mac OS Sequoia and My external NVMe disk is working again. This post is for Mac OS developers to check for APFS drivers on Mac Tahoe as they are messing up with external NVMe SSD. I don't know about others brand of NVMe I am using Transcend inclosure with transcend NVMe 2TB SSD hard disk.

Kindly please check as its not NVMe issue its and OS issue. If it was NVMe issue my SSD should also not work with Sequoia but as it is working with Sequoia so it has to be something with Tahoe OS.

Kindly review your code about APFS drivers or thunderbolt USB C drivers or may be something else linked to APFS file system.

I hope this post reaches you and you guys can consider it as help full.

Kind regards

MacBook Pro (M1, 2020)

You are only talking to users and not Apple in this forum. I have several NVME drives and one at times disconnects for no reason though I suspect something with the power draw on my Mac Mini M4. You did not mention what drive(or enclosure) you are using. You can try a different cable and/or a different NVME drive or enclosure to see if anything changes.

Hi,

Yes, I share some of your woes. I have just bought an external NVMe enclosure and 4TB WD SSD drive. This combo works perfectly on a MacBook Pro running Sequoia, works perfectly on a MacPro running Tahoe, but on my M4 Pro Mac Mini (also running Tahoe) it routinely disconnects. I was sure that this was a software clash, but even in Safe Mode it does the same thing. I have tried re-installing the OS, but to no avail. I have pondered a clean install of the OS, but I worry this is a lot of work for me to find that I have the same issue! I suspect this is a bug that Apple will get to. I just wish they would get on with it!
