Unable to find new screen shots in macOS Tahoe 26.0

I get the usual clicking sound when I use shortcut commands to take screen shots, but I can't find them on my laptop. Screenshots have always been saved to the desktop in previous OS iterations...not in Tahoe 26.

Screenshots are saved in whatever location you set it to save. Tahoe has not changed this to my knowledge.

If it got changed, press the Command+shift+5 keys on your keyboard to bring up the Screen Shot app tool bar, then click on Options and select the Desktop as your screen shot destination from the Menu under "Save To".

What happens when you set it to Desktop?

It should produce a preview thumbnail which you can click on, then click on "Done" and it should save to Desktop.

Or if you leave the thumbnail untouched, after a couple of seconds it should save it to the desktop.

Is that not happening?

Stating just: "Doesn't work". is not very helpful.

Do you have iCloud Drive Desktop & documents turned on?

I've already tried that avenue. It does not work for me.

I posted a screen shot of the most simplified options to side step issues.

I can only suspect you have tried the multiple changes in an effort to compare your results.

If that does not offer any insight or resolve—

I can say third-party sync software like: OneDrive, GoogleDrive, BackBlaze or DropBox all have in app settings that can over ride and usurp screenshots to those locations...Look there.
