Need a new printer for and old MacBook Pro 2012

I need a new printer for my MacBook Pro 2012.

A $50 Canon Pixma 2500 was what I had.

What newer models still work on a vintage computer?

Ive seen used pixma 2500s for sale online but shipping is high.

What are my options?

The four MacBook Pro models from 2012 all top out at macOS 10.15.

Whatever printer you pick, you absolutely want AirPrint.

AirPrint support avoids the need for vendor drivers for common functions.

What version of macOS is on your MBPro? A mid-2012 MBPro can run up to macOS Catalina (10.15.x).

I am partial to Epson inkjet printers, they have always served me well. There are current models in the under $100 price range that can be installed on Macs like yours running Catalina and earlier versions of macOS.

FWIW, I have never been enamored of AirPrint, having experienced limitations and failures with it. I far prefer to install and use the vendor's printer driver.
