Unable to access bank webpage

Over the last two years my bank, FirstHorizon of TN, has made changes to its online web platform. In four instances, right after the change I have been unable to access my account page. I complain and their IT department fixes it somehow. Two weeks ago the problem reoccurred and I called First Horizon. A ticket was created in their IT department. Last Sunday and Monday, the problem disappeared and I was able to access my account. Then on Tuesday the problem came back. Now the IT department says the problem is with my system. I use a late 2015 iMac with MacOS Monterey 12.7.6 and Safari 17.6 and have been for years. I also have a mac-Mini M4 with Safari 18.6. The problem occurs with both computers and both versions of Safari.

When trying to log on to the bank's webpage the bank's system accepts my user name and password, navigates through their security screen, and then begins to load the bank account page but hangs up without displaying any of the account information. Does anyone have any ideas about what the problem could be because the bank has closed out the ticket and left me high and dry.

Options:

  • For assistance with a third-party website such as the bank, contact the third-party; contact the bank.
  • If you have any add-on security apps, or add-on VPN apps, or Safari extensions, remove them all entirely, and try again.
  • Try a different browser, such as extended-support Firefox.
  • Move your accounts to a different bank and preferably with a more broadly-functional website.

FWIW, Your M4 mini should have shipped with macOS Sequoia so you should have Sequoia 15.7 and Safari 26.0.1 available from Software Update along with Tahoe 26.0.1.

Per Apple: Safari 18.6 is available for iOS 18.6, iPadOS 18.6, visionOS 2.6, macOS 15.6, macOS Sonoma, and macOS Ventura.

Per Mac Tracker, the original macOS version for Mac mini 2024 — the M4 model — is macOS 15.0.

That the website is having issues with various Safari versions including recent versions usually means website issues.

If Safari doesn't open a page or work as expected on Mac - Apple Support provides an exhaustive list of suggestions. The trivial suggestions may cause you to lose interest so be sure not to overlook the more useful ones or cause you to prematurely conclude they don't apply. They are all important. Methodically exhaust each one. For example "other third-party security software" includes non-Apple "anti-virus" / "Internet security" junk that should never be installed on any Mac.

Apathy.

👍

If the banking website continues to misbehave take your business elsewhere, and tell them why they lost you as a customer. They obviously don't care about you, so why should you care about them?

Apple doesn't release Safari updates via the App Store.

They either

  • Bundle new versions of Safari with new versions of macOS, or
  • Distribute Safari updates via Software Update

I'm on macOS 15.7 (Sequoia), but as a result of updating Safari via Software Update, I'm running Safari 26.0. It came out in the middle of September, whereas Safari 18.6 came out at the end of July.

Safari Release Notes | Apple Developer Documentation

It looks like Safari version numbering was based loosely on iOS version numbering, so Safari version numbers jumped directly from 18.* to 26.* as a result of Apple's model-year-based numbering change.
