Does deleting an unused app free up storage space on iMac?

Hi, if I move an unused 'app' ('Garage Band', in fact) to the Bin, does that free up the HDD space the app is (or was) occupying?

Specifically regarding GarageBand, yes, removing it will free up space. But not a whole lot. It's only about 1.0-1.2 GB.

GarageBand is an app you can remove. If you ever want it again, you can download it from the App Store.

But this answer does not necessarily apply to other unused apps, some of which cannot be removed.
