Changing Contacts background colour on MacBook Pro running Tahoe 26.0.1

I just upgraded to Tahoe Ver 26.0.1 on my MacBook Pro M4 Max / 64GB.

Here are the issues I am facing in the revamped Contacts App

  1. Unable to change the background colour in the right pane which shows the Preview of the selected Contact (the vignetting bluish-purplish colour is a huge strain on the eye.
  2. Unable to see the first few lines of the Notes (when I scroll down), especially when it contains Credit Card Numbers. Once I click on Edit, I can see the full notes.

These issues were not there in earlier OS.

Thanks in advance...

There are many short comings to the new Contacts.app interface...as well as complaints here.

You can try an alternative to make it easier on yourself. The Contacts.app — has become cumbersome under Tahoe.

You can try some third party alternative.

ex. BusyContacts https://apps.apple.com/us/app/busycontacts/id964258399?mt=12

1. I just want to get rid of the Blue background colour in Contacts
2. Maybe I misunderstood what you posted

What does that have to do with copy/paste every contact?

The background color changes with the choice of picture for the contact. However, none of them are good. With dark mode enabled and no contact picture, it is a tolerable black with gray text.

This is the issue - someone (cleverly?) thought to make the background color dynamic, based on the image you use, without regard to the title text color. A proposed solution to paste in the header with styling is way too cumbersome as you'd have to adjust that for each contact based on their image, and if the image updated for some reason, you'd have to do it again. The solution is to create a app preference for no background (setting background to dark/lite preference and reverse the type color).

As an example, I added a white "logo". This is what it does, and how badly it fails accessibilty. This conflicts with the DOJ's ruling on accessibilty. Currently, there is no OS fix for this, making Apple liable. Switching reduce transparency on does not impact the title color, causing it to still fail. The ADA/DOJ didn't intend for the fix for these sorts of things to be "the user should copy a title with a certain color and paste it in with styles maintained." Happy to be corrected if there's a fix for this. Will be looking at non-Apple solutions, but that plus migrating witll take time.

I just used Cmd-A to select all, copied, and pasted into a text editor. Not particularly useful, though.

What are you trying to accomplish? What are you going to use the copied contacts to do? In what format?

I agree 100%

  • Unable to understand why Apple would make these changes
  • All my Apple diehard friends are complaining bitterly
  • I have become so used to the Apple Contact App (with sync to iCloud and my iPhone), considering an alternative would be almost an impossibility
  • At the same time, what Apple Fans (such as you and me) are asking for is relatively a minor ask
  • I hope Apple is listening...

Apple doesn't care about accessibility - they expect you to turn on accessibilty features OS wide and destory the look entirely. Heck, their text bubble colors on the iPhone and in MacOS Messages fails the WCAG 2.2 accessibility contrast guideline. And they've made that such a huge part of their messaging 'branding' (who knows why since it's inaccessible) they will likely never change it.

But Ive is worth Billions now, and Apple has a market cap of 4 Trillion, so *inaccessible shrug emoji here*
