Apple Music not syncing duplicated smart playlists to iPhone
Hi,
I'm using Apple Music on the latest OS X 15.
I created a basic smart playlist with a few album artist filters. It populates with a list of tracks. I can sync this successfully to an iPhone with the latest iOS 18.7.1.
In Apple Music, if I use the option to duplicate this smart playlist, it creates a duplicate as I'd expect. For the duplicate, I selected all the listed songs and deleted them, so that Apple Music repopulates with a fresh set of tracks.
When I look, this new duplicated list and the original smart playlist have different songs, as I intended.
However, when I connect my iPhone with a lightning cable to this Mac, navigating to the Music section from Finder for this iPhone, when selecting Playlists, the duplicated playlist is already present and checked as if I copied it to my phone. If I hit sync, it does not sync any new songs.
On the iPhone itself, both the original and duplicated smart playlist exist by name, but the songs are identical between both playlists. They both contain the songs from the original smart playlist.
It's like Apple sees the duplicated smart playlist as having the same ID or some such, and treats it as identical to the original when interacting with my iPhone.
Is there some way to get Apple Music to treat this duplicate smart playlist as unique, so that it copies the songs as they appear in Apple Music for the duplicate? The workaround seems to be manually re-creating my smart playlist filters by hand each time I want to have a new shuffle of songs based on these filters. If possible, I'd like to avoid this. I thought that's what the duplicate option would allow me to accomplish.
Thanks!
