Power button on iPhone no longer works as snooze for alarm?

After updating to iOS 26, the power button on the iPhone no longer functions as "Snooze" for alarm, it simply mutes it. Is this by design? Not a very intuitive change. The whole idea behind "Snooze" is that you can hit it without opening your eyes... Any way to bring this functionality back?

Yes, it's a deliberate design change. With iOS 26, users need to swipe to turn off the alarm. While we aren't Apple here on this user to user only forum, for years people complained it was TOO EASY to turn snooze off and people asked Apple to make it more purposeful. You can't go back to how it was before. As you've learned, you can mute the alarm, but to turn it off, you have to swipe it off on your iPhone screen.

Mmm... Snooze isn't "turning off", it's "snooze". It means "ring alarm again after x minutes". It always required a swipe/tap on screen to turn the alarm off, but it was very easy to "snooze" for another 9 minutes. That's actually the point of snooze - it should be easy. Going back to the old nightstand electronic clock - that was the biggest button on that clock, for a reason.

What is happening now, with iOS 26, is that it makes it very easy to actually turn snooze and alarm OFF, as in "it will not ring again, ever", by pressing the power button to silence it. Thereby defeating the purpose of "snooze" — if I have to open my eyes and look at the screen to take an action — I might as well wake up and get out of bed.

I am not sure who complained about this functionality, but it seems to me that this is one of those fixes that actually made things worse.

I realize we aren't Apple here, but hoping that Apple scans the forums. I don't find it worth opening a ticket with support, and I can't figure out how to submit suggestions to their team.

Yup I’m screwed now because for years I pressed the power button to snooze my alarm and I’d fall back asleep for a few minutes. Now I’m just going to have to set even more alarms than I already do to make sure I don’t sleep in for work in the morning. There’s no unlearning this behaviour so it won’t change. Swiping my phone is not going to happen when I’m basically still asleep. Thanks apple for nothing.
