AirPods Pro2 constantly charging while in case and not connected to a power source.

AirPods Pro2 are charging constantly even when not connected to a power source. The left Air Pod and Case drain completely while this continues; the right AirPod drains more slowly. Is it simply time for a new pair after a couple years of use? Firmware is up-to-date and I have reset the AirPods and cleaned the contacts.
