My AirPods Pro 1st Gen are still tied to my wife's email address but not her account

A couple years ago, we upgraded my wife to 2nd gen AirPods Pro and I took over her 1st gen ones. We removed them from her Apple account and her Find My and successfully added them to my Apple account and they show up under my Find My.

However, when I use them, I usually get the message that someone else's AirPods are following me. It's been annoying, but I mostly ignored it. Today, when they wouldn't connect at all, I did further troubleshooting. When connecting them to my iPad, I got the message shown here, showing that they were still somehow attached to my wife's email address. I double-checked and they are not in the device list under her Apple account and Find My and are correctly in my device list.

Any idea how I can get them fully removed from her email?
