My wife’s new iPad set up with my in’s and hers emails.

I bought my wife a new iPad A16. Previously she had been using mine but had logged into it as her. Now, when setting up her new iPad it wanted some of my passwords and some of her passwords. If I delete an email off my iPad, it deletes the Sam email off hers. I don’t dare delete anything she has in my email area. Someone’s iPad is also called {“my name’s”iPad2}. How do I separate the 2 iPads?

iPad, iPadOS 17

Hello Cheapshot322,

If your wife switched Apple Accounts on your iPad previously, your data may be duplicated and added to hers such as your passwords. Ensure her iPad is on her Apple Account and your iPad is on your Apple Account by going to Settings and making sure the name at the top is different on each, matching the correct person's name. On her iPad, she should be able to delete passwords in her Passwords app on her Apple Account without it affecting your Apple Account saved Passwords.

As for your email account issue, if you use the same email address, it will sync across devices when you delete, move, read, and send emails. If you each have your own accounts, ensure each iPad is logged into the appropriate accounts for mail in Settings> Apps> Mail> Accounts.

You can rename each iPad in Settings> General> Name

I hope this helps you understand what you need to check and fix on each iPad! Without seeing each and how the settings are setup on both, I cannot give a set by step detailed guide.

Sincerely,

Captain
