I believe this is by design-

All the devices that would show on this list are devices which are signed into your Apple ID, which airpods aren't able to do.

Although, they are still linked with your account, but you cannot access your Apple ID on airpods in the same ways you would be able to on iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches or Macs.

You can still access the location in Find My but if you wanted to view the settings of your Airpods you can only do so once they are connected to your device via bluetooth. You can find these settings at the top of the settings list (below your name and above aeroplane mode on iOS 26) once they're connected- or you can open Bluetooth settings and click on the ⓘ symbol next to your AirPods.

Thanks for your reply. The thing is, I already lost my earphones once, and I didn’t get a notification on my phone that I’d left them behind, even though the notifications were turned on. Fortunately, the locator was still transmitting their location, so I managed to find them. Now I’m trying to figure out why I’m not getting notifications — I thought it might be because the device isn’t showing up on the list.
