Did they remove the ability to make the sender list small in Messages?
I don't seem to be able to do that anymore. Did they just hide it or did they remove this feature?

Still possible in Tahoe. Hover the cursor over the dividing line, in the right spot it changes to a vertical line with a right pointed arrowhead, and when you see that click and drag to the left.
