Cannot reset security questions for hacked Apple Account

Hackers appear to have got access to my account and added a security question. I can reset my password as tthey don't have access to my email address itself, but they can reset as they know my seccurity questions and I don't. How do I go about closing my account or changing my security question as when I go to reset my security question it says: "Cannot reset security questions" "We do not have sufficient information to reset your security questions."

I don't mind if my account gets closed - as the account isn't associated to my old devices (thank goodness), but I cannot get to screens to do any of that since I don't know the security questions and cannot change them to something I can answerr.

Any help would be appreciated, I can resett my password since I have acccess to my email address, but not the security questions

You can try closing your account here.

https://privacy.apple.com/

Make DOUBLY SURE that your old Apple Account (Apple ID) is signed-out from ALL of your devices. (Otherwise you might become permanently locked-out of them)

Disclaimer: As you don’t have 2FA enabled on that particular old account, I’m unsure if you need your security questions to execute the “delete.”

If they ARE required, you’re likely going to have to simply abandon the account.

Going forward, make sure that you DO have 2FA enabled on your currrently in-use account(s).
