Delayed contact names in iMessage on iPhone 15 Pro Max running iOS 26.0.1

whenever I open iMessages, all my chats first show the contact numbers instead of their names for about a second, then the names load in.

I’m on an iPhone 15 Pro Max running iOS 26.0.1. My contacts are synced with iCloud. Everything works fine otherwise, but this delay is kind of annoying.

Is this a known iOS 26 issue, or is there something I can do to fix it?
