Voice selection issue in macOS Tahoe after upgrading from macOS Sequoia

You may have to download the Kate voice again.

On my system, only Daniel appeared, but I was able to download Kate, and now it is available.

The way to download extra voices is (in my opinion) unduly obscure.

The quickest is to search for "speech" in System Settings:

Then click the circled i to be able to make adjustments, and download extra voices.

Any voice that is not presently installed will have download icon next to it - like Karen in the image below.

Search for Kate and if you see the download icon, click it.

I am using Kate now, after downloading it, so you probably will too.

Try booting into Safe Mode then restart normally. Sometimes that will fix anomalies.

It did fix one problem I was having.

For what it's worth, the only voice I see under UK English is Daniel. Might be the reason. I don't see Kate at all.

Never got a notification of your reply. Apparently from what I can tell the Premium voices are slightly larger than the Enhanced voices, which are larger than the defaults. I guess better fidelity. And no, I forgot I had downloaded one and it didn't cost me anything. :)

Question: Do Premium voices actually cost money?

I don't think so. I tried downloading "Karen (premium)" and it appeared to start downloading, but the download seems to be stalled.
