No contact photos visible after moving contacts to iCloud

I moved my contacts from Exchange to iCloud on my Mac because I’m leaving my job where I had all my contacts stored. The sync works fine, but now I have NO photos or posters for any of my contacts available anymore. I would honestly expect the opposite. Is there any fix for this?? I can’t seem to do anything to get the photo/posters that my contacts have set for themselves.
