How to change the default position for a window ie not in the centre

Tahoe introduced window centring as a feature but it's really annoying. I like my main window to be on the left so I can see the icons of files on the desktop on the right. Is there a way to move the default position, or simply to have it open where it last was (for minimised windows)?

Mac Studio, macOS 26.0

Centering or tiled on the left side are the options that Apple provides:

Tile windows on Mac - Apple Support

No way for the user to change those, only Apple can do so. To have Apple consider your feedback, submit it here:

Feedback - macOS - Apple

FWIW, when I minimize a Finder window (to the Dock), it reopens in the position on the Desktop where it was before minimizing it. Does your Mac not do that? Perhaps not if you use automatic tiling options.

Yes, that's fine for minimised windows. If I'm on a phone call though and need to refer to multiple and diverse information from different apps I need the info from each app/window to be visible without being the main window or being minimised. I also prefer the functionality where windows open in the same size and location as you closed them in eg when opening a new Finder window. Thanks for the feedback link - on the Apple website there is no visible way to place a comment about the OS itself, only the hardware, or the apps.

Yes, I was wondering how Apple planned to sell larger models of iMacs or screens if they insisted on treating desktop users as if they were on an iPhone. Story of the last 5 to 10 years though, a steady deprecation of desktop requirements for the lower and often dumbed down iOS methods of presentation - like the tiling feature is a direct copy of something M$ implemented years ago.

It means that if you go to the apple website before coming here there is no link to report feedback about MacOS itself.

I was giving you a compliment...

Sure there is:

You just have to scroll way down the page, which is why I provided the direct link to macOS feedback..
