removing broken/recycled iPads from my iCloud account

The power port and "power chip" failed on three of my iPads and Apple would not repair them, so I turned them over for recycling a couple months ago. They still appear on my iCloud account and, when I attempt to delete them the system tells me I can not because "theft protection" is enabled and I need to do it from the device itself, which has by now been destroyed I would think.
