Starting new project (importing files)

I have a question/issue that's haunting me forever in Logic and I can't seem to find the proper answer for it. So, let's say I've received a song to mix and it contains the audio files and a midi file that has the tempo map and markers for the given song. Also for context, I have my own template that I use every time.

What's the best way to start this project / importing those files?

My approach (because I haven't found a better one yet) has been:

  1. Double click on the .midi file to open Logic and so that Logic is able to import the tempo map and markers
  2. Drag the audio files in
  3. Open the browse menu and import the tracks from my template (with its plugins and routing)
  4. Move stuff to the correct places and take from there.

Now, one important thing to note (I noticed recently) is that by double clicking in the .midi file, Logic loses the "preview" track somehow and with that, the last audio track has the solo button crossed (protected).

Please help me out here! Many thanks!

My personal approach:

  1. Open my template.
  2. drag and drop the midi file into the template and import the tempo of the midi file
  3. drag and drop the audio files into the template. the audio files should have all the same starting point.
