My iphone 16 face id doesn’t work properly
Subject: URGENT: Face ID Unlocking with Unregistered Face on iPhone 16 (Severe Security Concern)
----
Dear Apple Support Team,
My name is Sayan, and I am the owner of an Apple iPhone 16. I am writing to report a serious and urgent security issue related to Face ID on my device.
I have registered my own face as the primary Face ID and my brother Saikat's face as the alternative Face ID. However, I have discovered that my elder brother, Sudipto — whose face has never been registered — is also able to unlock my iPhone successfully.
This is extremely alarming and raises major privacy and data security concerns.
To troubleshoot, I have already taken these extensive steps:
1. Performed a hard reset on my iPhone five times.
2. Deleted and re-added Face ID more than ten times.
Each time, the issue initially disappears, but after 2–3 days, the unregistered face (my elder brother’s) once again begins to unlock my phone.
As per Apple’s guidelines, I understand that Face ID supports only two registered faces — one primary and one alternative. Therefore, the fact that a third, completely unregistered face can unlock my iPhone clearly indicates a potential flaw or malfunction in Face ID security.
Given that our three faces are distinctly different, this behavior should not be possible under any circumstance. I am now feeling unsafe and insecure using Face ID for device protection.
I kindly request immediate investigation and escalation of this issue to the Apple Face ID engineering and security teams. Please advise the next steps or any diagnostic process required from my side.
Thank you for your urgent attention and swift support in resolving this serious security matter.
Best regards,
Sayan
