Tahoe not recognizing external RAID enclosure on MacBook Pro M1
External RAID enclosures tested:
- AKiTiO NT2 U31C ASMedia ASM1352R USB bridge chip with HydraTek hardware RAID controller, USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C.
- Stardom SR2-B31A USB bridge chip not confirmed by technical support, but they stated that the USB bridge chip and RAID controller are independent components. USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C.
Problem description:
I originally used the AKiTiO NT2 U31C as Time Machine backup RAID enclosure. After updating to macOS Tahoe 26.0.1, the system can no longer connect the enclosure.
At first, suspected cable issue, so replaced it with an OWC cable (Thunderbolt 4), but the problem persisted. Cross-testing confirmed that the cable was not the cause.
To rule out enclosure failure, I purchased another hardware RAID-capable enclosure (Stardom SR2-B31A) for testing, but it also cannot connect. In System Information, the RAID enclosure does not appear at all, and it seems the OS fails to detect it entirely.
Running the command:
ioreg -p IOUSB
also shows no trace of the external RAID enclosure.
Additional observations:
Standard non-RAID external drive enclosures work normally. When removed a single drive from the NT2 U31C and installed it into a non-RAID USB enclosure, it mounted and functioned properly.
However, both enclosure equipped with a hardware RAID controller is not recognized under macOS Tahoe 26.0.1. on MacBook Pro M1. I also ruled out connection issues, and confirmed that in:
System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessories, the option is set to Automatically when unlocked.
Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated.
