Brother Printers and Apple
I feel like Apple should be leading the charge to ensure printer manufacturers either support a certain, basic levels of support or they should be not allowed to tap into the ecosystem and the customers in it.
In this case, the Brother HL-L2340DW is a fine piece of hardware, a solid performer that supports 1200 dpi printing and is still sold today. However, Brother never added HQ print mode to the AirPrint driver support. Instead, customers have always been advised to install the CUPS drivers, which do support HQ printing.
However, Brother stopped providing CUPS drivers back in Catalina and instead, it directs the consumer to install the AirPrint driver with only 600dpi mode.
Brother has essentially lowered the specifications of the printer after the sale. This is unacceptable.
