Text deletes itself on Pages

I’m writing in Pages on IOS and stop for a moment. My fingers are only on the back of the phone and suddenly a bunch of text starts to delete itself very fast one letter at a time (as if I were holding down the delete key on the keyboard). This has happened a few times over several days. The only thing that stops the deletion is to press the Done button, or it deletes the entire document. The deleted text appears to be gone forever because you can’t Undo after pressing Done.

I’ve opened the documents in both iOS and MacOS. I’m not sure if I experienced this on the Mac too, but it definitely happens on iOS. I haven’t experienced this bug in other apps only on Pages.

What version of iOS are you using on that iPhone 12 Pro? It can support iOS 26.1 and Pages v14.4 for iOS. The latter is supported on iOS 17 and later and if you haven't already, I would update Pages from the App Store and test if the issue of disappearing text is resolved, or continues with Pages v14.4.

I cannot reproduce this here, nor experienced it with any version of Pages on my Pro Max phones (13 -> 17).

Thank you for your reply! I'm on iOS 18.7.1 and Pages 14.4.

Since posting this, I've seen reports of problems with autocorrect and the iOS keyboard itself. I wonder if that's related. It may be more generalized than just applying to Pages. I haven't experienced it lately but will keep an eye out.

I was able to retrieve some lost text by using Page on MacOS to revert to an older version of my Pages document that I had opened on my Macbook.... A possible option for others in the same situation....

It may be that you have "Back Tap" active & it is deleting text.

I don't recall if this setting is new to iOS 26 or if it was available in iOS 18.x, but you can look in Settings > Accessibility > Touch & scroll down to see if there is a setting called "Back Tap" & turn it off or choose actions for double or triple taps. I don't see deleting or replacing text as an action, but that doesn't mean it can't do that.

Exactly the same thing just happened to me. 20 minutes typing lost forever. Will never use it again.
