Magic Mouse A3204 missing scroll settings.
Steps
- buy a brand new Magic Mouse model A3204 and unpack it.
- Connect it by bluetooth to your fully updated Mac desktop
- Go into Mouse settings
- Set settings for Tracking Speed, Natural scrolling toggle, Secondary click and Double-Click Speed.
- Look for the scroll and swipe settings.
- Discover there are no settings.
- Troubleshoot through various combinations of turning off, connecting to Mac via charge cord, retstarting both, etc.
- Find that nothing works.
- Unselect the new mouse and reconnect the old one
- Tracking options pop up immediately. On top of the previously mentioned settings available with the new mouse.
- Mouse works perfectly fine.
I still have the old Magic Mouse A1657. This works perfect on my Mac but I got a refurbished older MacBook and was going to use it for that.
It will have both in the Bluetooth menu, I can unselect the new one, click or plug in to select the old one. Unselect that and click to reconnect the new one. In any circumstance the new mouse has no swipe/scroll controls and won't perform these functions.
I noticed many people have reported this problem for years now. Chats were closed and I couldn't see that a viable solution had been provided for any of these users. Of course I didn't read them all... General how to set up and how to use the mouse is useless. Most Mac users know this. Some recommended solutions were for problems not even mentioned. I'm hoping someone finally has found a solution that works.
One other element that I wouldn't think impacts it is that my MacBook Air is not compatible with Ventura so it's not on the same iOS as my Mac.
Update: I did one more test. Turned off bluetooth on my Mac and connected the new mouse to the MacBook Air. It has the same outcome. No controls to set up swipe/scroll settings.
