Someone broke the window of the car we were using and stole the AirPods. I located them, but the police would not get them. I tried myself, but could not get into the high-rise apartments. Can they be disabled completely?

You might check with your homeowners/renters insurance agent to see if they might be covered under the policy.
I just read that if a device is not set in the Find My App homeowner/renter insurance won’t cover them. Just saying…
