External Apple Super CD Drive

I have a 2023 Mac Mini with OS 15.6.1 Sequoia. The mini has 2 USB-A ports(not USB-C). The eject tab at the top of the monitor screen shows there are no devices. I checked Finder>settings, and the find box is checked. How could there be a lack of power to run the drive? I have another extension plugged into the Thunderbolt port. But the draw of power is not enough to power the CD drive.
