Connecting to Safari after upgrading to iPadOS 17.7.10

Two days ago I upgraded my iPad Pro (10.5-inch) to iPad OS 17.7.10.

After the upgrade Safari, would not open/refresh any existing Tab on the grounds that the connection to the server was not secure. Checking the declared server (google.com) showed that the server certificate was current.

Today I am told that 'safari can't open the page because it couldn't establish a secure connection to the server.

Some apps appear to function (Facebook) and connect thru to their server. Others do not.

Suggestions on how to restore Safari/ DNS server connectivity to working order welcome.
