Macbook Apple Pay payments via iPhone fail

Hello Everyone,

I have a couple of cards in my iPhone's wallet. I have no cards in my Macbook's wallet.

But I was still able to use Apple Pay on my Macbook in the past via the iPhone. As in I initiate a payment on the Macbook, the MacBook contacts the iPhone and gets card details etc and then I confirm the payment on the iPhone.

But lately this fails every time with the message that the iPhone could not be found.

Both devices have Bluetooth enabled and in the Finder I can see the iPhone just fine (I understand it may use WIFI for that ) and start backups and syncs etc. But the payment thing fails every time regardless.

I dont think I changed anything specific to payments between the last time it worked and now that it doesnt work. I had a couple of OS upgrades on either device (both on current OS) but thats it.

Any ideas?

Thanks C

What iOS is your iPhone using and what MacOS are you using? Are both devices logged into the same Apple Account (formerly known as Apple ID)?

Please follow this path on your iPhone,

iPhone > Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > Apple Pay Defaults > Allow Payments on Mac > enable setting, if already enabled, please momentarily disable and the re-enable.

Will try chrome.

My keyboard has fingerprint auth yes. But...

I spilled some juice over my keyboard and had to have the keyboard replaced. And during the repair the fingerprint button - which is separate to the keyboard - was damaged. I didn't bother replacing the fingerprint button since it has to be paired with the mainboard in order to work - which was going to be awkward and costly if possible at all - and I wasnt really using fingerprint anyway. This was obviously not done via Apple.

So long story short yes I have a biometric keyboard but that feature isnt working.

May that be the explanation?
