iPhone 6s automatic update to iOS 18.7.2 despite iOS 15 limit

That is not possible.

Are you sure you have an iPhone 6s? Your Device line says iPhone 12 which can update to iOS 18.

What do you see in Settings ➜ General ➜ About ➜ Model Name. If it says 12, then you have an iPhone 12.

If it says iPhone 6s under just "Name", then that is just whatever name you gave it, and does not reflect the actual model of the iPhone.

Usually happens when you setup a newer device from an older one's backup. The process copies the name over to the new one.

You can change that name at any time to whatever you want by tapping on it.

iPhone 6S cannot be updated beyond iOS 15.8.x. So you can't be on iOS 18.

Try going to:

Settings > General > About

There you can see what software version you have on your iPhone. If there is any software available, go back one menu item and select software update. But iOS 15 is definitely the last version for the iPhone 6S.

Your tag line says you have an iPhone 12. So what exact model iPhone do you own? Open Settings > General > About - Model and Version - report back what they are.

You clearly do not have a 6S, or you cannot possibly be on iOS18.7.1.

So you have some checking to do……..

If you mistakenly wrote iPhone 6S, but you mean your iPhone 12, you cannot update to iOS 18.7.2 as that version is no longer signed for your model. You must either stay on the version you are on now, or update to iOS 26.
