Airpods 4 with Noise Cancellation, Hearing Test

Apple support gave you the correct answer. Hearing aid functionality requires AirPods Pro 2 or 3.

"I'm using an Iphone 12 IOS 18.7.2 with my Airpods 4 w/Noise Cancelling. According to all of the websites I've looked at, these Airpods should work the hearing test and consequently the hearing aid function, but when I called and spoke to Apple Support, they told me that I needed Airpods 2 pro or Airpods 3 pro with phone running IOS 26+. Can anyone shed some light on this?"

I brought them especially for the hearing assistance. Brand new airpods pro 3 and iphone 12 is running IOS 26.1. I've tried all of the tricks, rebooting the phone, forgetting and re-attaching the airpods. I've done the hearing test in Health. NOTHING. I'm about to take them back to the shop.
