Are there any special characters or accents in the name of your backup or your computer? Multiple users have reported that that causes issues under Tahoe. For example, “John backup” will work, but “Jöhn backup” would not.

That is a misunderstanding. As I type this, my Mac on Tahoe 26.1 is running its hourly TM backup to the Synology DS233j NAS sitting on my desk.

What is happening is that the Apple Filing Protocol (AFP) is being deprecated. AFP is an old networking protocol, and it's used by the (also old) Time Capsule meaning that in the next macOS after Tahoe, it won't work. Some people initially set up their NAS using AFP, though for some time now SMB has been the standard (that's what QNAP suggests). First off, make sure your NAS is configured as they recommend (setup instructions).

Thank you for the tip. No, there isn’t any special character involved.
What’s strange is that when I downgrade to the previous macOS version, everything works perfectly.
But when I reinstall macOS 26, it stops working again.
I also spoke with Apple Support in Greece, and they told me that Time Machine backups via NAS are no longer officially supported.
I’m not sure if that’s actually true or just a misunderstanding.
