Pages - spinning color wheel comes on right away and I have to Force Quit the app

I just yesterday upgraded (I think, the jury is still out) to a MacBook Air from a 13 year old Mac laptop. I've never had a bit of trouble with this app but I can't use it on the Air. I open the app, the color wheel starts spinning and I have to Force Quit the app. I rebooted the computer doesn't help.

It may have to do with Apple Intelligence which has been "In progress" since I turned the computer on 24 hours ago. I can't stop it or restart that, either. I don't care if I have Apple Intelligence or not, but it may be that I need it for Pages. Anyone?

MacBook Air 15″, macOS 15.6

You should be using the free Pages v14.4 currently available in the Mac App Store. Attempting to use an outdated version of Pages on macOS Sequoia will not end well. Keep the operating system (e.g. 15.7.2) and Pages up to date.

Switch off Apple Intelligence in System Settings. Shut your Mac down (not reboot) if Apple Intelligence refuses to die.

Once you have Pages updated to v14.4 (or whenever they decide to release a newer version), press and hold the shift key while launching Pages. You should only need to do this once. It causes Pages to skip using its last saved execution state and gives you a fresh start (hopefully without that spinning wait icon).
