Migration assistant failed to transfer files

I bought a new MacBook Air M4. Have an M1 MBP.

I tried to migrate data thrice. First ran successfully but new Mac didn’t show any data. Was using USB-C cable.

second failed unexpectedly.

third successful but again no files showing.

second and third attempts were using thunderbolt 4 cable.

user account transferred and got created but doesn’t show any files applications. Disk utility shows nothing.

both Mac running macOS 26.1.

is this a bug?

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 26.1

Both are 512GB. Wondering what was happening.

finally, erased all contents and chose migration on fresh setup which succeeded.

What are the storage capacities of the two Macs?

It is possible that files are not being transferred because the new MBA does not have the capacity to house the intended data. You may have to resort to manually copying only what you most need from the old MBP.
