Nas connected via ethernet 1GB connection. It does appear under location but only as the network address not the name I gave it.
It was working before but had a message that AFP would not work in future releases. So when I upgraded to 26.1 I figured I would adjust it. Hmmmm (if it aint fully broke …)
I open up the QNAP “finder” locate it and it finds it. I add to Tahoe finder under locations and I can select it. but ™ can’t find it to add disks.
The nice ui to ™ is missing, just to add disk which it can’t find
According to the QNAP specifications, Time Machine server appears to be supported on the TS-219P II:
https://www.qnap.com/en/product/ts-219p%20ii (Mandarin)
Time Machine server uses mDNS (Bonjour) and SMB, and not AFP.
AFP is not available with macOS 26 and later.
If you’re seeing messages about AFP, then the NAS is apparently not being accessed via Time Machine server.
If you have or can upgrade to QNAP QTS 4.3 or later, here is the setup: https://www.qnap.com/en/how-to/tutorial/article/how-to-back-up-your-mac-to-qnap-nas-using-time-machine
If QTS 4.3 or later is configured for Time Machine server, and if your Mac Time Machine connection is using SMB and not AFP, and you have tried removing and re-adding the Time Machine connection on macOS, then check with QNAP support.
Mounting the NAS volume locally is not required, as macOS Time Machine should detect the QNAP NAS via the mDNS traffic multicast from the NAS. This once Time Machine server is configured on the NAS, and also assuming details such as the Mac and the NAS are mutually reachable within the local network and with mDNS available, and (for testing) no VPNs and no firewall and no routing blocks are configured.
