Macbook power cable and SIRI

The charge cable on my 2024 Macbook pro falls off with only the lightest movement of my laptop. Any solutions? Right now I have it somewhat anchored with a bent paperclip. This seems to be a ridiculous solution for a very expensive piece of equipment. POOR ENGINEERING.

Also, can the way Siri answers be changed from "Huh"? This is HORRIBLE. She sounds like a lazy/don't bother me b_ _ ch. A simple "Hello" would be so much nicer.

  1. Check for debris in the port and also make sure the connector is clean. The MagSafe connection uses a magnet on the cord itself and also inside the port. While magnets don't typically wear out, there may be something else going on there if not debris. I would schedule an appointment at Apple and you can also test with one of their cables to see if that makes a difference.
  2. You can send feedback to Apple. To avoid any kind of acknowledgment, you just need to ask the question without a pause after "Siri". There is no wakeup time needed for Siri to realize you want to ask a question, and she will answer just fine without a pause. Some users are used to Google or Alexa where you have to pause after the activation word and that is not necessary with Siri. Anyway here is the link to send feedback to Apple.

1: MacBook Pro charges via Magsafe and via USB-C. if one isn’t working, use the other.

As for debris, I’ve occasionally had ferrous metal involved in the socket or the plug, and that’s kept the Magsafe from seating.

At your next opportunity, make an appointment with Apple and bring it all in for a look.

2: I like to think that the “huh?” is Siri trying to be polite and to train me to not to make Siri wait; that I can trigger Siri and immediately provide my request.

I have never had any problems keeping them mated. I have never heard of having to use a paperclip or anything else.

I agree that you should have this evaluated.

Your appointment at the genius bar for a hardware-related issue at an Apple-owned store is free, in warranty or out.

Those folks put their hands on these computers all day every day. If yours behaves the way you described on their counter, they will be starting to debug it before you even finish explaining what is wrong.

a modest correction:
The magnet is fixed on the computer, ONLY, and the cable-end is made of ferrous metal.
(you would not want a magnet on a cable loose near your computer)

My error than, I was referring to the Support Documentation that states:

  • The MagSafe connector and MagSafe port on your Mac laptop contain a magnet that can possibly erase data on a credit card or other magnetic devices.

It seemed pretty clear from the documentation that the magnet was on both ends. My current MacBook Pro is USB-C only, but my previous one was MagSafe and I no longer have that connector to test. Although that would be easy to do.
