Date/time stamp on website videos

Date/Time Showing on Video:

Hi, I have a website that has videos of various lengths. On shorter videos, they play without the date/time stamp on the bottom. On longer videos, this shows up as a banner on the bottom of the screen. Unfortunately, that also hides important parts of the video.

Any way to stop this?

Thanks,

Dave

Actually, I saw no malice. What I saw was you believing that you were addressing a novice who should look elsewhere for help. The biggest fault (and I'm not pointing directly at you) with forums is people believe they are experts and make judgements without offering constructive help, which is why people go to forums in the first place.

Now you (yes, directly), instead of offering anything to help you just said I was in the wrong place. I find that very snarky (not with malice) and IMO airs of superiority. And that, is one of the great flaws of forums. You never get that from ChatGPT.

I do hope to design an agnostic web site. Unfortunately, Steve Jobs (a former neighbor) and Apple have the opinion that they know how to do things better than the rest of the world. In this case, Apple has taken away (possibly permanently) my ability as a web site developer to decide when date/time information should or should not be posted in a banner at the bottom of a video on an iPad. (I will check my iMac shortly but expect the same thing.) I'm sure Apple believes they are doing what's best for their users, but not having the control that I expect is very detrimental.

This time, everything I said was entirely sincere. No snark.

I am not seeking help in building my web site. ChatGPT is way better at that than any forum.

I am looking for a specific answer to a specific problem. Viewing a video on a PC browser does not show the date/time banner at the bottom. Viewing it on an iPad does. It appears to be something iOS does (maybe only) because the video is longer. iOS does not do this on a smaller video.

So, IMO the iPad Support Community is certainly the best forum for this. That is, of course, if anyone here has the skills to understand what I'm asking.

My apologies to the community for my snarkiness. I feel it is warranted.

Alas you seem to seek and find malice in my earlier reply - where none was intended. I merely suggested that you might find appropriate coding advice elsewhere.

You might be lucky and find a contributor here with the expertise that you perhaps seek. However, for any productive advice, you'll need to share details of the platform that you are using - and your code.

Arguably, you should be aiming to be browser agnostic - supporting the common browsers that you might encounter. ChatGPT, while perhaps useful, is not necessarily a good source of reliable guidance.

Snark, maybe, maybe not. Unfounded arrogance, most likely. That you might have been in sort of proximity to Steve Jobs over 14 years ago is in no way germane to the topic.

As you have already been informed, this particular forum IS NOT the place to address your issues. It is a user forum. The developer forum is where you should explore this, or with whom ever actually owns the platform hosting your site. You also could report it to Apple (Product Feedback - Apple), although you will need to gather considerable more information to present for your feedback to be of any real value.
