How can I fix Home Gesture issues on iPad Pro running iPadOS 26.0?

Hello. I’m using a 12.9-inch iPad Pro running iPadOS 26.0 (23A5276f), and I’m experiencing persistent, reproducible gesture-handling issues. Multiple apps (Apple and third-party) minimize or return to the Home Screen without any input. This occurs whether the device is used standalone or attached to the Magic Keyboard.

Behavior details:

• App Switcher can be invoked (I see the new grid layout), so the bottom-edge gesture sensor is functional.

• However, while using many apps, the system performs an unsolicited “home” gesture after a few seconds.

• No crash/freeze occurs; the UI remains responsive, so this is not an app crash.

• The issue is intermittent but systemwide across multiple apps.

• The search interface previously rendered with a 75% black overlay, which resolved after disabling transparency and motion effects.

Troubleshooting already completed:

• Disabled Stage Manager

• Disabled all Multitasking features (Split View, Slide Over, Picture in Picture, Recent Apps in Dock)

• Disabled all Touch Accommodations and Gesture-related accessibility features

• Enabled Reduce Motion, Reduce Transparency, and Increase Contrast

• Performed deep restart (force reboot through double-Apple-logo reset)

• Performed “Reset All Settings” (non-destructive)

• Verified behavior both in portrait and landscape

• Verified behavior with and without the Magic Keyboard

• Verified no hardware-triggered touches along the bezel

• No third-party app appears responsible; issue is OS-level

Given the above, this appears to be an iPadOS 26 gesture subsystem or UI event dispatch bug rather than a hardware failure. Could you please escalate this to engineering or advise whether this aligns with any known issues in 26.0? I would also appreciate guidance on whether a 26.1/26.2 fix is expected.

Thank you

Winton

I have not experienced - and am unable to replicate - the behaviour that you describe. As a first step, you should update your iPad to the current version of iPadOS. At the time of writing, iPadOS 26.1 is current.

If having updated your iPad to the current version of iPadOS your iPad is not operating as expected, try a forced-restart - as this will often clear an isolated or post-update software issue:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

If the problem persists after performing the restart, it may be necessary to reset your iPad settings. While this reset will not cause any loss of data, as a precaution, it is always wise to ensure that you have a current iCloud or iTunes backup before performing the reset:

When you are happy to proceed, you can perform the reset from iPad settings:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings

If the problem still doesn’t clear, the next step is to reset the iPad to factory settings:

Alternatively you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:
