How to disable expand keyboard button when external keyboard is connected?

Is there anyway to turn off the little expand keyboard button when I have an external keyboard connected? It doesn’t show up in all apps, but when it does it’s super annoying, since it blocks part of the text box, so I have to keep moving it back and forth to see what I’m typing.
