Worried About Screen Recording Permission Appearing After macOS Tahoe 26.1.0 Update? (appeared beeping on top bar)

Hi everyone,

I just updated from macOS Tahoe 26.0.1 to 26.1.0. After the update, I noticed in System Settings > Privacy & Security that there's a "System Monitoring" and "Screen Recording" menu with several apps listed.

I'm a little concerned that this is some kind of monitoring being active. Is this normal?

(there is blue beeping on my control bar -- if i screenshot it would be like this)

In my "Screen Recording" menu, the apps listed are:

Is it safe to leave these apps active? I just want to make sure my privacy isn't compromised. Has anyone else experienced something similar after the update?

Thank you.

Applications in that list are those that have asked for permission to record your screen. Makes sense for AnyDesk (remote access software), Chrome needs it to share your screen in a Google Meet in the browser, for example (same with Teams; on my work Mac that permission is active for Teams and Zoom, for example...but Adobe Photoshop requested it, and I said 'no').

The active one, "System Monitoring", appears from my googling to be a process of Teramind. That's based on their kbase article on configuration of permissions for the Stealth Agent.

If your Mac is managed/provided by an organization (work, school), then that is likely something they installed on your Mac. For example, my kids' school-provided Chromebooks have Securly installed for that purpose, so when they're in class the teacher sitting at the desk can see if the students are working on an assignment or playing a game. So if your Mac is managed, I'd say that makes sense and if you have concerns, then contact your work/school IT support.

If your Mac is personally owned and set up, then I think you do have something to be concerned about. If so, post back and we can dig a bit deeper.
