The display isn't failing as such (at least I can see the things it is trying to show) but it does look like oil has gotten in between the layers. Oil doesn't evaporate so it could be like that permanently unless the display is replaced. If course there is also the risk that things could get worse so it is advisable to get it repaired.

How to make a Genius Bar appointment
1. Go to Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options - Apple
2. Go to "Get hardware help".
3. Select your hardware and continue selecting options requiring replacing parts until you see "Bring in for Repair"
