Laptop displays black screen with moving cursor
When I open up my laptop, I get a black screen, but the cursor arrow is lit up and moves

If you are unable to interact with your Mac, force it to shut down by pressing and holding its power button / Touch ID button until it shuts down. You know it has shut down when the cursor disappears, and the Caps Lock LED will not illuminate when pressed.
Then, start your Mac again in the usual manner.
