AppleCare coverage for iPad with dent

So I got a iPad a 16 and I was out of town a week ago and I dropped it and now there’s a dent close to the charging port. Will Apple give me a new one or refurbished? I have AppleCare too.

  • The terms explicitly say the plan does not apply to cosmetic damage including "scratches and dents that do not otherwise affect the functionality of the Covered Equipment." apple.com +1

  • In other words: if the dent is purely cosmetic — the device still works fine and the dent doesn't impact function — then Apple may deny coverage under AppleCare+ for that dent.

  • Users in forums support this: For example on the MacRumors forum:

  • "Unless the damage affects the watch's functionality, it's not likely to be covered." MacRumors for..

  • And from the official PDF:

  • "The Plan does not apply to cosmetic damage... including but not limited to scratches and dents that do not otherwise affect the functionality of the Covered

Hi there,

AppleCare+ for iPad includes coverage for accidental damage, such as drops. A dent near the charging port would fall under accidental damage as long as the device is still functional.

With AppleCare+, Apple typically does one of the following depending on the condition:

  • Replace the iPad with a device that is new or equivalent to new (Apple often uses refurbished units that meet new-device standards), or
  • Repair it if possible.

There is an accidental damage service fee for iPads under AppleCare+. You can check the exact fee and start a repair here:

To proceed, you can book a repair at an Apple Store, an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or start a mail-in service through the link above. Apple will confirm whether they will replace or repair once they inspect the device.

Regards.
