MacBook not shutting down properly on Sequoia - stays awake continuously
I'm experiencing a critical shutdown issue on macOS Sequoia 15.1 with MacBook Air M2 and Mac Mini M4
- When I shut down via Apple Menu → Shut Down, the screen goes black within 5 seconds (appears normal)
- Mac never actually shuts down - stays awake the entire time
- Example: Shut down at 1:45 PM, reopened at 4:45 PM → Screen Time shows 16h 45m (not 3 hours)
- This happens consistently at any time of day, not just overnight
- Battery drains 4-5% during "shutdown"
- Finder runtime matches Screen Time
Diagnostic findings:
pmset -g log
Shows Calendar scheduling wake events:
wake at [TIME] by 'com.apple.alarm.user-invisible-com.apple.calaccessd.travelEngine.periodicRefreshTimer'
Steps already tried:
- Disabled "Wake for network access"
sudo pmset -a proximitywake 0 and womp 0
sudo pmset schedule cancelall (events recreate themselves)
- Turned off Bluetooth before shutdown
- Waited 60+ seconds before closing the lid
- Time to Leave alerts are already disabled in Calendar
Question: How do I stop Calendar's travel engine from preventing shutdown? The Mac appears to shut down but stays running indefinitely. Is this a known Sequoia bug?
