Apple News free subscription not recognizing password

I am trying to get my three free months of Apple news and for some reason or another it is the only thing in my system that does not recognize my password and I don’t wanna change it and have a bunch of complications all the way through my system. Why doesn’t “accept you’re free Apple subscription for three months“ not use the same authorization as everything else. how do I fix this without a hassle?

Thanks for the quick response.

To the best of my knowledge, I have never used a free offer before and given that it was offered to me via email, it seems that Apple doesn't feel that I've already used one -- or why did they send the email?

The problem here is simple. When I try to claim my free offer, I click the link in the email and am taken to a site that asks for my password. I fill it in. It doesn't work. Now, obviously, I can get into this with passkey, fingerprint, face ID, etc., so there's no problem with the password, and I don't want to change it because, having recently purchased an iPhone and a watch, I've done enough verifications, and it's not worth it. I do find it curious that every other Apple site (for instance, this one) is EZ to get into. I don't think the problem is on my end.

How do I fix this? I want to try Apple News and be an Apple News customer. Also, is it possible that I responded to a fake offer? It didn't seem fake, and it knew I'd recently purchased an Apple product.

Thanks,

Flint

Is it just that you don't see the free trial when using your current Apple Account/Password when you expect to have one?

The Free Trial is only for new subscribers, so if you previously used a free trial for Apple News, you will not be eligible for that offer. If this is the 3 month offer with a device purchase, you can view the terms here:

• Offer is available for new Apple News+ subscribers with Eligible Devices for a limited

time only.

Yes it is possible you have responded to a fake offer. I have not seen an email from Apple showing the offer, especially if it required you to enter your password. It is helpful knowing you were attempting to claim a free offer from an email, and not the usual method of a notification in Settings on your device.

There may be some clues to determine if it was phishing:

  • Are you addressed in the body of the email by name or something generic like "Dear Customer"?
  • While the sending address of emails can be easily spoofed, what address do you see?
  • What is the URL of the page the link takes you to when you tap it?

In an abundance of caution, I would change your Apple Account password.
