I have a document where I used Touch ID for the password in 2018. After many updates of the Pages App, it is asking for a password, and I’m unable to use my finger imprint as a password. I cannot open up my important document. What do I do?

In order to use touch/face id, you would've needed to create a 4 to 6 digit code, enter that code, if you don't know it there is no way to access that document. Read here Password-protect a Pages document on iPhone - Apple Support
